Cottage Soaps

Cottage Soaps is now part of Simply Herbs. It was started by a local soapmaker who then decided it was too much for her to cope with as she already had a full time career as a hairdresser. We were pleased to add Handmade Soaps to our product range at the start of 2006. Mary has learnt a lot about making soap since then, mainly that it can be quite unpredictable but is always challenging, lots of fun and requires strict attention to safety.

We know that more and more people are realising that what is sold as “soap” these days really should not be called “soap” as it consists wholly of a mixture of artificial chemicals. Cottage Soaps handmade soap is just that – real old-fashioned soap handmade with extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil with the addition of pure essential and botanical oils and food colours to give the lovely effects you can see in the photographs. They will leave your skin feeling soft and nourished.

Our soap is made in small batches using the traditional “cold process”. Unlike commercial soapmakers, we do not extract the glycerine which is formed within the soapmaking process; it is all retained in the finished bars and it is this along with the good oils used which makes these soaps such a pleasure to use. Our Bathing Salts contain the natural essential oil of the herb and its dried flower heads. The wheat for our Wheatbags is grown on the farm where our workshop is located and only the best cloth is used. They are available in Lavender or Natural (Unscented). These are heated in your microwave or conventional oven. In Summer they can be used as a cold compress by simply placing in a plastic bag and cooling in the freezer. Unfortunately we do not supply our Wheatbags or Salts by post because of their weight which would mean expensive postage costs. Meet us at our markets and buy them there. Wheatbags

Lavender Wheatbag
The delightful fragrance of Lavender relaxes the mind while the warm wheatbag gently works on tight and tired muscles.

Natural Wheatbag
You can choose the scent of your wheatbag - simply sprinkle a small amount of your favourite essential oil onto the bag or use it unscented.

After about 10 uses, place a small bowl of water in the microwave with the wheatbag to prevent it drying out too much on future use.

Specialist Sea Salts

Lavender Sea Salt
Lavender flowerheads and essential oils are blended with pure sea salt. Use with your existing bathing cosmetics to soften and scent your bath water. Lavender is the classic herb for relaxation and help with sleep.

Rose Geranium Sea Salt
Again we blend the flowers and essential oil with pure sea salt. Add to your existing bathing cosmetics. Rose Geranium’s beautiful perfume is refreshing, uplifting and balancing to the mind.
